The award is given to just one public defender in the entire state each year, making it one of the most selective recognitions available to attorneys practicing in indigent defense. It honors a public defender whose work on behalf of juvenile clients reflects an exceptional level of skill, dedication, and advocacy.
Annie was nominated for the award by her mentor, Megan Ehrlich, who now serves as Chief Public Defender for Charleston County. The nomination recognized Annie’s work representing juvenile clients during her time at the Charleston County Public Defender’s Office, where she built the trial experience that continues to shape her practice today.
Annie was also recognized around this same time as:
- “Star of the Quarter” by the South Carolina Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division, 2019
